Each of these lessons lead into each other to allow for students to build upon their own short stories they will be developing throughout the unit. The more crucial elements come first and then the others come to add detail to their stories. First, students must know what they want their stories to be about (the plot), and then, they decide upon the major problem in the story (conflict). Next, where and when their story takes place (setting) and who it is about (characters). Finally, they must decide how to best tell their story (point of view).
