Tracy Baird Empsall
Writer- Artist- Explorer-Teacher- Student
Tracy is a student of Secondary English Education at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Cheney High School's class of 2008 voted her most unique, and after graduation, she found herself in Costa Rica, where she developed a love of teaching. Once she returned to the states, Tracy enrolled in Eastern Washington University to become a high school art teacher. After some detours and adventures, she became an English Education major. In 2010, she drove across the country in a halfway broken-down Geo Tracker to marry Chris Empsall. Tracy then transferred to UNCW, and she and Chris adopted a rescue dog, Ronin.
When she is not on campus or with her family, Tracy is with fellow UNCW student, James Bryson, tutoring students in downtown Wilmington. She works to teach them reading, writing, math, and life skills, while they teach her to dance to hip hop music and improvise on the basketball court.
Tracy will be graduating in May of 2014 with a Bachelor's Degree in Literary Studies and then will begin UNCW's Master of Arts in Teaching Program. After receiving her Master's Degree, Tracy plans to teach in the Pacific Northwest.
